Julie’s riding again

If you missed Julie’s story of how she bonded with her horse after an accident, it’s here.

I mailed Julie asking if she was okay. Here’s Julie’s reply:

“Thank you so much! I have begun riding again a couple of weeks ago and with the riding halter as well. I can ride with very loose reins and much confidence. I have neighbors 2 miles away with 3 horses and 2 donkeys. We ride to see them ( which have become RC’s friends) at least once a week.

He still loves his brushing and scratching. Being a Mustang, he doesn’t whinny, however he will nicker at me. Knowledge can give us such blessings. I am grateful to have the knowledge I have with animals. I watch the Dog Whisperer for knowing my dogs better and I read your posts to learn more about horses and horsemanship. Animals are beautiful beings that God blessed us with and when we can have connections to them that goes beyond our expectations, than that is a beautiful relationship for life.

I am happy to see your return to my inbox! You were missed.

May The Lord Bless!

Julie and RC”

I think Julie struck a chord with all of us – have a look at the comments, like Pauline’s:

“There is just so much more to horses than riding them! I am glad you have learned that. As I get older I don’t ride much any more, but I can guarantee that the bond I have with our horses will mean that whenever I am near them, they will make me smile and make me feel loved. They give every bit as much as I do, sometimes more. When a flight animal wants to be near you, the feeling is beyond belief. They will protect you, guide you, heal you, respond to your deepest feelings. Most of the time we underestimate the capacity of these magnificent creatures.”

On another note, I’ve been ferreting through all the emails and comments. Lots of gems in there. I have no idea whether they will work for you, but clearly they do for some folk:

“When washing horses don’t buy expensive horse shampoo uses baby shampoo! Cheap and just as gentle , Have always used this on all of mine.

If a wet muddy day is looming, coat horses legs in baby oil, when you bring them in to dry, just throw them in with mud on and the mud simply drops off as it dries.

In UK a product called Dettol antiseptic solution used very very dilute is a great fly deterrent, as we use it with babies its great on the geegees and very cheap.

Dee”

And for those that asked for it, horse whisperer link is here.

Best

  1. Julie you inspire me. I agree with you about animals being a blessing from God. I feel so privileged to have animals that connect with me heart and soul..Good luck to you and RC, and keep riding.

  2. Thank you Al! Your emails have been greatly missed in my inbox. Julie’s story has given me the shot in the arm of hope that I needed. I have the grwat pleasure of being owned by 2 mustangs that were both “somebody take this horse please” ads on Craig’s list . The young mare had a small filly. They both were wild horse who now , after 3 years, would sit in my lap if she could. The older mare had been trained but was untouched for 2 years. She changes her mind constantly, without warning, about trusting me. It can be very discouraging. She can be so high strung. I almost wish I could release her back into her mustang home range again. Confinement is not her cup of tea. But the BLM would just gather her again and then who knows what would happen to her. So I wait and try everything to reach her.

  3. What great ideas.
Horses are a gift from GOD who allows to care fr these wonderful gifts..we call horses.Enjoy them.

  4. I am in Australia and really enjoying your site……….great to see you back………..

can I purchase ‘Horse Whispering ” besides going over the internet …wary of credit card transactions on net

  5. Frederick Booth

We like Glenda, also would like to purchase Horse Whispering, but do not purchase over internet either because of to many hackers trying to steal account numbers and get precious funds from innocent people. Glad to receive your e-mails ,you were missed and it is nice to read differing opinions of people from around the world. Our horses we consider as part of our family and would eat and sleep in our house if we would let them. Our cats and horses are gifts from God we feel along with many other writers on this site. Fred and Joan.

  6. glad you recovered now.i also know there is more to horses than just riding as for me I cant ride because I’m in a wheelchair, cant wear socks or shoes and have NJ feeding tube but I love spending time with the horses, one particular horse can be a bit grumpy but for me he is an angel he lets me in his stable, walks amazingly beside my wheelchair, and is so gentle with me and will stand perfectly whilst I groom him
