yes, this is a sign that he needs more flora in his gut. look into pro-biotics for horses to help him gain this.

When foals are born, one of the things hardwired in is for them to nibble on their mom’s poop to gain the gut flora they will need.

Remember horses can not throw up so never give him anything that expands in water unless you soak it sopping wet first! (I am referring to stuff like beet pulp) so you do not get a burst gut, impaction, or a choke. Many folks put their pro-bioitics in soaked beet pulp or a very wet mash – hence my bringing it up.

I do not advise to use yogurt for horses. first off it has been proven in scientific studies in Europe that GMO’s horizontally transfer from the feed to the animals and even into the human’s DNA if it is a meat animal. SO giving yogurt to a horse from unlabeled GMOs and hormone laden cow milk products is asking for trouble.

Also i suggest you make his feed (and yours) as organic and unprocessed as possible. The more “stuff” to preserve or stabilize the grain, the more it will mess with his flora.

If you can’t pronounce it or spell it, it belongs in neither man nor beast.
