Fred, Time, money and lots of love and work went into Barbaro. Sometime we cannot accomplish what we so want to do. Remember Ruffian? She was a fabulous racehorse who broke her leg. Hours of surgery by a team of Veterinarians. When Ruffian woke up, she kicked and destroyed-in a few seconds- what the surgeons fixed. She had to be put down. There was no amount of time, money and expertise that could save her.

Molly’s story is heartwarming but I wonder if we do these things for our benefit or the horse’s benefit. It seems Molly is happy, so that is key, here. Bravo.

It’s not about the horse ‘a flight animal’ it’s about humans trying to make themselves feel better. Sad I know but this poor pony should have been PTS Instead she’s been turned into a freak show. I love all my horses but would NOT subject any of them to this sadness and take the freedom and the ability to run with the wind in their manes kicking up their heels for joy … For no other reason that they can !!!! Sadly Molly will never do that never and be a whole horse again. Stop putting sentiment before sense and responsibility…saying goodbye and making that decision is the hardest thing to do for any animal lover. It should be about the life that is left after we interfere not for the ‘do gooder feel good’ moment that leaves this majestic animal trapped forever with three legs ….It’s a horse with instincts and flight response NOT a human with the reasoning to understand why…Molly’s soul and spirit is for ever trapped in a plastic leg !!!!!
